Fireworks Prohibited – City of Murphy: 4th of July Fireworks: It is that time of year when families and friends gather to celebrate our Country’s Independence. With this celebration, shooting fireworks has become synonymous with this day. However, in the City of Murphy, as is true with most incorporated cities, the possession, selling, transportation, manufacture and/or shooting of fireworks in the city limits of Murphy is prohibited by city ordinance sec.34-41 through 34-44.
Police officers of the MPD will be out in-force to enforce this ordinance. Fireworks and high density housing, such as we have in Murphy, are not a good mix. Violators will be prosecuted and could face a significant fine. Plus, all fireworks are considered contraband in the city limits and will be confiscated.
City of Murphy and the Murphy Police Department wishes everyone a safe, happy and joyous 4th of July.

Murphy Median Beautification Project – Work has begun on the 2008 bond project for the median beautification streetscape program. MESA Design of Dallas is the landscape architect firm that designed a comprehensive city-wide beautification program of tree plantings for Heritage Parkway, West Betsy Lane, and South Murphy Road. American Landscaping Systems of Carrollton were awarded the bid contract at $1,054,519.70. This contract will include installation of irrigation, planting 400 large oaks, elms, and cedar trees, 345 crepe myrtles, and 240 native holly trees, a variety of native grass beds and ground covers, and constructing berms covered in solid sod Bermuda grass for South Murphy Road, Heritage Parkway, and West Betsy medians. The contract also includes a full year of maintenance by the contractor to assure that all the plant material is well established before the city assumes the maintenance. Currently, utility crews are on site marking underground lines, boring, and installing underground water lines and electric lines. Reconstruction of the Heritage Parkway medians will begin mid-April. Once Heritage Parkway is complete the contractors will move to West Betsy Lane, complete it, and then move to South Murphy Road. All construction work should be completed by the end of the summer. Check the Murphy website (www.murphytx.org) for construction updates and forward any questions to Kim Lenoir, Parks Development Manager at 972.468.4040 or email klenoir@murphytx.org.
